12/27/18 Last post of the year!

My plan this year was to "do something with it" and I feel like I did that. I made something from at least one magazine from every year I own. I spent time experimenting with Contemporary Geometric Beadwork. I used beads and cabs from my stash and even finished a couple of UFO's! I would call it a success! I didn't bead anything this week, but I do get to show off the beaded gifts that I made this year!

First is the brooch I made for my sister-in-law. It is a bead embroidered piece of Eudialyte that I surrounded with seed beads and finished with a gorgeous white leather.

My sister-in-law is from Russia and so is the stone, so I thought that was nice, and she seemed to really like it when she opened it! Bead Honesty- I struggled for weeks to figure out how to surround it and make it look good. I ripped out at least five tries before I made the alternating seeds and mini crystals work. I ended up very happy with the final results.

The other beaded gift I made this year was for my mom- who reads my blog so I really couldn't share it till now! Hi Mom! It was a framed peyote panel of her kitty. (I made the kitty wider and striped to better resemble her cat :)

I used a frame from Micheals and inserted the stitched panel. I based my pattern on a picture of a panel from the internet, but changed it so the kitty was bigger and tabby striped and the bead count fit into the frame! The edges of the Peyote panel are red but the frame covers most of it. I really like this one, and my mom loved it when she opened it! It was obvious it was her kitty!

I have debated back and forth about my decision for next years plan. I had first decided that I was going to make earrings each week, but as I thought about it while beading the Cellini donuts I changed my plan and decided that 2019 is going to be the year of Cellini. Each week I am going to make a donut or some kind of Cellini inspired beadwork. I might make a bracelet, or earrings, or beaded beads, or maybe some thing I haven't even envisioned yet, but every week I will be using beads in multiple sizes to create my blog post!

Happy New Year! I will be back and posting on the 3rd with my first Cellini of 2019!

12/20/18 Lentil ball

This week I actually did a bunch of beading but most of it I can't show because they are gifts! I did end up making a Cellini donut like I blogged about a couple of weeks ago for a co-worker of my husband. I wore them to a holiday party and she was in love! I also finished the gift for my Sister in Law and made a beaded bead so I had something to show for this post!

This bead is made from two hole lentils and size 11's. I start with a single hole and attach them together into a dodecahedron, then I step up to the top holes and fill in between with 11's. In the final step I go back through all the 11's and connecting them into little triangles. That tightens it up nicely!

I am not sure what I am going to do with it, but I am glad I have something to show for this week!

Next week I won't be making anything since I have two of my three Christmas celebrations before Thursday! I will be showing off the goodies I made as gifts and announcing my plan for next year (which may have changed, but I have a week to decide :) Happy Holiday to all- whatever you may celebrate!

12/13/18 Lighted Star!

This week my goal was to make a star that could be put on a strand of lights. I did it and I think it is pretty awesome!

I made this star from warped squares in size 8's with 8 rows including the one that connects the squares together. To make the hole at the top for the lights, I stopped adding beads on the peak after row 5 on two of the squares. It took a little wiggling to get the lights inside but it is just tight enough that the star doesn't fall off the light.

I have this great dream now of making an entire strand of stars but I need to wait for clearance and buy myself a short LED strand and all the beads :)

If anyone was wondering about our snow- we got a lot!

Next week I have no idea what I am going to do. It is the last post of new work for the year! Wish me beady luck. I do know I am going to make a gift, I have the beads picked out and the plan made!

12/6/18 Farfalle Snowflake bracelet

This week I revisited one of my own tutorials and made a bracelet from my Farfalle Snowflakes tutorial! The pattern for the individual snowflakes is available in the tabs at the top of this blog!

To link the snowflakes together I used the outside bead of a finished snowflake as the last inside bead of the next. Following the tutorial, Step 19 is where I connected them together. :) A funny thing about the snowflakes...I didn't know when I started this bracelet that the snow total forecast for this weekend is going to be double digits! It doesn't often snow in December here, let alone 10+ inches of it! Good news- I will probably have beading time!

I also found out this week that the beautiful "Storm Cloud" colored pnuts that I used to make this bracelet are difficult to photograph otherwise there would have been "how to" photos too!

Next week I am going to try something that I have been thinking about since we decorated the house for the holidays. I want to make a warped square star that I can put over a light. Like a little light cover. I think I can adapt the construction to leave a hole but I have to try it to understand what I am doing! Hope that makes sense! Wish me luck-

11/29/18 Holiday Donut Wreaths

This week I made three beaded donuts in red, green and white. The three obvious colors that are clearly meant for Christmas and the holiday season!

I used 15's, 11's and 8's in tubular Cellini stitch to make these donuts. Two of them are made with 10 "swirls" and one with 9. The one with red 8's was much more flexible for some reason and connected nicely after nine "swirls".

I plan on wearing all three together on a chain. I was originally going to make a bracelet, but with all the cold weather my long sleeves would cover a bracelet, so donut pendants were born!

I don't have a plan for next week, but I do plan on making at least one gift and something I can blog about! A little update on my Aunts wrap bracelet necklace: She loved it and it fit perfectly! :)

11/22/18 Happy Thanksgiving!

Gobble Gobble! Happy Thanksgiving. This week I spent a good amount of time looking online for a good Thanksgiving themed project. I didn't find anything I wanted to make so I decided that napkin rings were a good idea. I have never made any before and it turns out that peyote stitched SuperDuos look a lot like harvest corn and make great rings!

These took 170 SuperDuos each to make. I mixed several colors of Duos that I had together to make a cute mix that matches my other Thanksgiving decor. I peyote stitched them and used 15's on the edges to protect the thread and give them a finished look. They fit small napkins like the white ones a little loosely, but also fit nice big restaurant sized napkins!

In addition to the napkin rings, I finished one of the beaded gift projects that I started! I couldn't share a picture if I wanted to since I haven't taken a picture of it yet. I plan to share photos of what I make this year in my 12/27 post- after the gifts have been given :)

Next week is the last post of November! I don't have a solid plan yet, but I am planning on making myself my yearly holiday colored jewelry. Sometimes it is a small pair of new earrings, sometimes it is more- we will see how much I can manage to do and what I feel like making this year!

11/15/18 Holiday time!

This week I made a fun little beaded bead/ornament out of the beads I bought last week. Making it helped to inspire my holiday spirit and reinforced that my beady mojo is back! :)

I am not ready for the never-ending, never-changing Christmas music everywhere I go, but bring on the rest of it! I am excited to decorate and bake! I also started- and almost finished one beaded gift.

Here is the necklace (which I know she will wear as a wrap bracelet) that I made for my Aunt. I haven't mailed it yet, but I figure since she isn't online much, and doesn't use FB often I am safe to share it here. It will (hopefully) be in the mail to her tomorrow :) If you know her- don't tell her ;)

Next week I am going to finish the gift I started, and likely start another. I really can't share what I'm making right now because it is for my mom. She likes my posts on FB. She has the link to my blog. I will come up with something to bead this week that is Thanksgiving inspired since it is coming next Thursday. I am grateful that I get to spend the day cooking, blogging, and watching football, a few of my favs!

11/8/18 Earrings, planning, and more!

This week I made two pairs of earrings, I started a present, I finished the gift I had started (that I still can't show since I haven't mailed it yet), and I made November's component! I would call it a success! While on an adventure to look at the beautiful fall leaves I had the opportunity and stopped at Off The Beaded Path in Forest City, NC. If you read my blog you have seen a link for Kelly Dale's YouTube videos. She is the owner of the store- and FYI it is great! I was overwhelmed with the selection of shaped beads, but it got my beading mojo working again! I bought this great color of SuperDuos while I was there and managed to get two pairs of earrings made out of the bag! They are very Carolina Panther colored! Go team!

The first pair of earrings is made from my "Beth Duo Earrings" pattern. It is in the tabs at the top of this page and is free if you haven't tried it and want to! The second is a Dodecahedron made with SuperDuos and 11's- one of my favorite beaded beads :).

I also made the 4th component for my International Beadweavers project!

Next month's color is pink and it should be a cute component, this weeks was a struggle since I had limited colors of dark red.

Next week I am going to make a "Christmasy" beaded bead. I bought these beautiful "lipstick red" GemDuo beads while at the store and I can't wait to turn them into a beaded bead. They are metallic, red, and gorgeous. I want to make a bead like this one except with a holiday color scheme. It should be awesome!

In addition to making beaded things, and finding my mojo at a bead store, I made a plan for next year's blog. I am not going to share it until my December 27th post, but there is now a plan! WOOHOO!

11/1/18 Halloween Kitty Pendant

This week I stared at my beads, I looked at a couple of magazines, and I visited the FB groups to get inspiration. I didn't find any. I really didn't feel like beading. The only constant in my search was a cute, cuddly and annoying kitty named Thunder.

A combination of Thunder and Halloween became my inspiration for actually beading this week! I made a couple of Peyote donuts into a kitty- a little beaded Thunder pendant! The big donut started with 40 beads and the smaller I started with 22. I made the ears with three 15's with Delicas on either side. Beaded Thunder's tail is made with Delicas. I think it turned out cute. I simply added a peyote stitch strip looped over as the bail on the back.

During my search for inspiration I found a bag of beads that I bought at Micheal's earlier this year that had these Jack-O-Lantern beads in it. Bead honesty- I had completely forgotten about them. I remember that they were 70% off with another 20% and it was June when I bought them- that has to count for something! I ended up making a stretch bracelet with them, just in time to wear it yesterday! It goes well with Thunder :)

I can't believe there are only Eight more Thursdays left! That means only eight more posts this year! Again, I don't really have a plan for this week. I know I am going to continue the gift for my Aunt- which I didn't even touch last week. Now that it is November I really should start to think about holiday gifts. Wish me luck! I think a big part of my job this week is going to be planning!

10/25/18 Fall Donuts

This week I didn't think I was going to make it to my blog post. I have still been working on a secret project (aka gift I can't show the world) so I squeezed in making a small pair of Fall colored earrings to blog about!

These donuts start with 42 beads around and have both a mix of Fall Delica colors and metallic 15's on the inside. I had been wearing the 3d pointed oval earrings I made earlier this year all the time. I love that they are lightweight and up until my wardrobe changed to cold weather, they matched everything- everything Summer!

Next week I am again winging it on what I am doing...I am not sure if this is a great plan, but it is the one I have for right now. Hopefully I will get to more beading in this week!

10/18/18 Catching up on IBW

I used my beading time this week to catch up on my monthly components for the Facebook group International Beading Week-first week of August every year. Last year I made beaded beads each month. Each month is a different color with the colors represented in the banner photo in the group, starting with yellow in August. Click on over and join up if you are interested, it is a public group with beaders from around the world! Here are my beads from 2017:

This year I am going to make 12 components and connect them together into a Delica Dodecahedron like I blogged about in January of this year!
Like these things-

Here are the components I made this week- one for August, September and October. I used multiple colors for each piece to give them a "patchwork" feel. Hopefully when they are all connected together they will look cohesive!

Next week I again have no idea what I am going to make for blogging purposes, I should dig through and find a UFO to finish. Bead honesty- I am currently in the middle of a long necklace/wrap bracelet for my Aunt, but I can't show it to the world before she gets to see it...Don't worry- I am pretty sure she doesn't read this blog, but if she does- surprise Judy! :)

10/11/18 A pumpkin

This week I decided to make a cute little pumpkin with Peyote stitch and four sizes of orange beads. I was inspired by Aurelio Castano's stitched gourds and pumpkins. Recently he re-shared them in a FB group that we are both members of which reminded me how much I have wanted to attempt my own version! His pattern for pumpkins is for sale on his site ACL Patterns & More.

It turned out really cute, so cute that if I find the time, I may have to make it a couple of friends before Halloween!

Again I have no idea what I am going to make for next week. Like this week I will most likely use something as inspiration and see what happens :) Wish me luck!

10/4/18 The Dragon ring

This week I tried to tackle the pattern "Dragon Scale Cuff" by Michelle Leonardo from Beadwork Aug/Sept 2018! I didn't get very far! I wrote last week that I was glad to be done with the magzines and voiced some frustration looking at patterns I can't make because the new shapes of beads. Guess what!?! When I bought a bunch of daggers so I would have enough for this pattern- I didn't see that the pattern calls for two holed daggers- it would have been nice if I had read that. Instead of the cuff I had planned, I used my single hole daggers and ended up with this really fun ring:

The ring is made with Peyote stitch and actually fits nicely and is definitely unique.

I have no idea what I am going to do for next weeks post- check back in and be surprised like me!

9/27/18 Curly Q bracelet

This week I made a bracelet like the "Curly Q necklace"  by Anna Elizabeth Draeger found in the back of the October 2017 Bead & Button magazine. It says the pattern is an excerpt from the book "Jewelry Designs with Czech Mates Beads"

To be honest, I found this bracelet difficult to make. It is stringing and not bead weaving but it was tough keeping it tight enough to curl as more beads were added. I ended up stringing it more than twice, and am still not 100% about it.

I am also not fond of the way it fits or looks when worn. Bead honesty- I am going to cut this one up and use the beads for something else. It is a shame that I really liked the way the example looked but am not jazzed about the one I made. I guess that is one of the many woes of beading!

Next week I am going to try to tackle the pattern "Dragon Scale Cuff" by Michelle Leonardo from Beadwork Aug/Sept 2018! This is the last week I am picking a pattern from a magazine! Honestly I am glad to be done with them, it is a bit frustrating looking at patterns I can't make because I don't have 150+ 3mm crystals or the right new shape of bead. It will be nice to get back to using the beads I know I have!
